Softball Recap: Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears vs. Dimond Lynx
Juneau-Douglas and Dimond squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Juneau-Douglas had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Lynx by a score of 9-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lynx this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in May.
Brynn Wheeler was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Wheeler was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bryanna Eakes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
This is the second loss in a row for Juneau-Douglas and nudges their season record down to 19-17-1. As for Dimond, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-13 record.
Juneau-Douglas does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dimond, they will challenge Chugiak at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Lynx's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
