Basketball Recap: Herington Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Herington and West Elk squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Herington had to settle for second. They fell 57-44 to the West Elk Patriots. The Railroaders' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Despite the loss, Herington still got an impressive performance from Mason Mortensen, who posted 29 points and six rebounds. That was a full 65.9% of Herington's points, marking the 18th time in a row Mortensen has earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Pierce Schelesner, who put up four points.

West Elk got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kase Kill out in front who shot 88% from the field en route to 15 points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Kill a new career-high in steals. Maddex Moreno was another key player, going 7-for-14 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Herington's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for West Elk, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.

Herington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Elk, they will face off against Southeast at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
