Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Merced). They blew past the El Capitan Gauchos 63-6 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Gauchos: they've now won nine in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Merced to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dougie Andrews, who rushed for 89 yards and three scores. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Andrews a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Isayah Smith, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Smith, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Another reason for the win was Merced's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Brandon Peel was especially locked on to El Capitan's QB and sacked him twice. The game marked Peel's first with multiple sacks this season.

Merced's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for El Capitan, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Merced wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 49-14 win against Atwater on the 24th. As for El Capitan, they have also already played their next contest, a 26-6 victory against Buhach Colony on the 24th.
