Basketball Recap: Cary Takes a Loss

Cary fought the good fight in their overtime match against Middle Creek on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to the Middle Creek Mustangs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Imps this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-47 back in January.

Cary lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jonathan Peery, who posted 19 points and seven rebounds. Stone Holcombe was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

Middle Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brittain Queen led the charge by putting up 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of George Daniels, who had 15 points and eight boards.

Cary now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Middle Creek, the win got them back to even at 10-10.

Cary will be playing in front of their home fans against Holly Springs at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Holly Springs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Cary surely won't give up without a fight. As for Middle Creek, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-56 win against Panther Creek on the 5th.
