Softball Recap: Lansdowne Comes Up Short

Lansdowne had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-9 to make it eight. They lost 29-5 to the Catonsville Comets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Comets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-7 back in March.

As for Catonsville, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-8. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Catonsville's part, Kaia Gross made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gross was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Sky Mikow was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Aaliyah Bridges was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Lansdowne will venture away from home to face off against Dulaney at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Catonsville, they will head out on the road to challenge Hereford at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Comets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulls have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
