Softball Game Preview: Gayville-Volin Raiders vs. Flandreau Fliers

The Gayville-Volin Raiders will head out to face off against the Flandreau Fliers on Tuesday. Gayville-Volin's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Flandreau's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Gayville-Volin is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Vermillion just ended the team's seven-game winning streak last Thursday. They fell just short of the Tanagers by a score of 8-7.

Teresa Stockman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kendra Beeck, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Flandreau made easy work of Howard on Saturday and carried off a 20-8 win. Considering the Fliers have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Flandreau is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Gayville-Volin, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.

Gayville-Volin couldn't quite finish off Flandreau when the teams last played back in May of 2023 and fell 10-8. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
