The Weeki Wachee Hornets will be playing at home against the Springstead Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Weeki Wachee has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 51-35 bruising from The Villages Charter on Thursday.
Despite their loss, Weeki Wachee saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Joelys Rodriguez, who scored 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Clark, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Springstead had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.1 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 55-4 win over Central at home. Springstead has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Springstead's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but J'ziyah Munford led the charge by scoring 16 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Munford has scored all season. Samantha Suarez was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and six steals.
Weeki Wachee has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season. As for Springstead, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Weeki Wachee hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 52.1 points per game. It's a different story for Springstead, though, as they've been averaging only 49.4 points per game. The only thing between Weeki Wachee and another offensive beatdown is Springstead.
