Basketball Recap: Jamir Patterson Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

On Thursday, the Brooks Eagles earned a 55-46 victory over the Kennedy Crusaders. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while the Crusaders are ranked 662nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brooks got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jamir Patterson out in front who posted eight points and four steals. Those four steals gave Patterson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braylon Smith, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Brooks was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only racked up five assists.

Kennedy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Joseph Dahl, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jovani Naverette, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Brooks' victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Kennedy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Brooks didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-24 loss against Payton College Prep on the 11th. As for Kennedy, they will venture away from home to take on Mather at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
