Softball Game Preview: Milford Tigers vs. Panguitch Bobcats

The Milford Tigers will take on the Panguitch Bobcats at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Milford is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Millard just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 17-6 to the Eagles.

Hadley Griffiths was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Paizlee Florence, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Panguitch waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Buckaroo an 11-0 shutout. While the Bobcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Katie Hatch was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Hailey Bangerter was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Kadee Harland was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Panguitch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .381 or higher in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Panguitch pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.4 runs over those games. As for Milford, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Milford skirted past Panguitch 17-15 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
