Basketball Game Preview: Smithville Tigers vs. Caldwell Hornets

The Smithville Tigers will face off against the Caldwell Hornets at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 12 consecutive losses for Smithville and four for Caldwell.

Smithville is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Giddings on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Smithville was outmatched by Giddings and fell 66-19. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-7.

Meanwhile, Caldwell lost to Navasota at home by a 66-47 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1318th, while the Rattlers are ranked 579th).

Smithville's loss dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Caldwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.

Smithville was dealt a bruising 91-43 loss at the hands of Caldwell in their previous meeting on January 10th. Can Smithville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
