Baseball Game Preview: North Stokes Vikings vs. Elkin Buckin' Elks

North Stokes has gone a perfect 8-0 against Elkin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The North Stokes Vikings will head out to take on the Elkin Buckin' Elks at 6:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Elkin will be up against a hot North Stokes team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. North Stokes put the hurt on Bishop McGuinness with a sharp 11-3 win on Saturday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by eight runs or more this season.

Elijah Whicker was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Michael Frye was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

North Stokes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elkin). They blew past Statesville 14-6 on Friday. The Buckin' Elks haven't had any issues with the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

North Stokes' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Elkin, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

North Stokes skirted past Elkin 8-6 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will North Stokes repeat their success, or does Elkin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
