Recap: Goldwater Bulldogs vs. Coronado Dons
The third road matchup was the charm for the Goldwater Bulldogs, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 40-28 win over Coronado on Monday. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Goldwater has managed all season.
When it comes to explaining why Coronado lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ariel Douglas. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 22 rebounds. Douglas has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played.
Even though they lost, Coronado were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Goldwater's victory ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. As for Coronado, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Goldwater will face off against Estrella Foothills at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Estrella Foothills' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. As for Coronado, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Mary's at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Mary's presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Coronado in Arizona (St. Mary's is ranked 110th, while Coronado is ranked 262nd).
