Softball Game Preview: South Oldham Dragons vs. Oldham County Colonels

South Oldham is 0-10 against Oldham County since May of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Dragons are taking a road trip to challenge the Colonels at 6:00 p.m. South Oldham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

South Oldham fell victim to North Oldham and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Dragons were not able to get on the board.

South Oldham saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucy Knabel, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Oldham County faced Assumption in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Colonels put the hurt on the Rockets with a sharp 12-6 victory. Considering the Colonels have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Lori Edgar, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalie Cheatham, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Oldham County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Assumption only posted a batting average of .286.

Oldham County pushed their record up to 19-8 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for South Oldham, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-10.

Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Oldham hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Oldham County struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
