Basketball Recap: Northside Christian Comes Up Short

Northside Christian lost against Clearwater Central Catholic last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Northside Christian Mustangs took a 51-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders. The matchup marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Northside Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Elijah Ahlers dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. Ahlers has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Jon Myers was another key player, putting up five points and five boards.

Clearwater Central Catholic can attribute much of their success to DJ Gibson, who went 6 for 7 en route to 16 points. The dominant performance gave Gibson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brody Church, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds.

Northside Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-6.

Northside Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, they will square off against Tampa Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Clearwater Central Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season.
