Softball Recap: Santa Rosa Takes a Loss

Santa Rosa had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 10-11 to make it four. They came up short against the Estancia Bears, falling 18-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 on Tuesday.

As for Estancia, the win (which was their 18th in a row) raised their record to 22-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games.

For Estancia's part, Jhenna Valencia made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Valencia has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matches.

In other batting news, Ana Cuevas was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylynn Velarde, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Rosa will face off against Mora at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Estancia, they will venture away from home to challenge Rehoboth Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
