Baseball Recap: Jackson Prep Sets Scoring Season-High Against St. Joseph Catholic

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jackson Prep). They were the clear victors by a 19-2 margin over the St. Joseph Catholic Bruins on Friday. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Bruins recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Jake Bailey looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jackson Prep let Kevin Roberts, JR and Gardner Young run wild. Roberts, JR went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Young went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three hits gave Young a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Powell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Jackson Prep's record is now 16-7-1. As for St. Joseph Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Jackson Prep is set to challenge their familiar foe Hartfield Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, St. Joseph Catholic will face off against rival Presbyterian Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
