High school basketball: City of Palms Classic preview, bracket, teams and players to watch

Five-star prospects Darius Acuff, Darius Adams, Ikenna Alozie, Cameron Boozer, Mikel Brown, Caleb Gaskins, Jalen Haralson and Caleb Holt headline individual talent.

The City of Palms Classic tips off Wednesday, Dec. 18 and runs through Monday, Dec. 23 at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena on the campus of Florida SouthWestern State College.

The 51st annual event offers everything a high school basketball fan could want. The field features 14 of the top 100 teams in the country, including the top team in both the MaxPreps Top 25 and National Top 10, and showcases 37 top 50 prospects.

The 16-team Traditional Bracket features 10 nationally-ranked teams between the MaxPreps Top 25 and National Top 10.




No. 1 Columbus (Miami, Fla.), No. 4 Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), No. 8 Oak Ridge (Orlando, Fla.) and No. 10 Great Crossing (Georgetown, Ky.) represent the MaxPreps Top 25 while No. 1 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), No. 2 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), No. 3 Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) and No. 4 La Lumiere (La Porte, Ind.) join from the National Top 10.

Teams ranked within the top 100 nationally in the 16-team field include No. 40 Bullis (Potomac, Md.), No. 51 Archbishop Carroll (Radnor, Pa.), No. 66 Central Catholic (Portland, Ore.) and No. 79 Owasso (Okla.). Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.), Gateway Charter (Fort Myers, Fla.), Millennium (Goodyear, Ariz.), Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy (Dallas, Texas) and Westminster Academy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) round out the main bracket.

The four-team Signature Series is composed of National Top 10 No. 7 Dynamic Prep (Irving, Texas) and MaxPreps Top 100 No. 40 Bullis (Potomac, Md.) joined by DME Academy (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and Dream City Christian (Glendale, Ariz.).

In addition, the four-team Sunshine Series features the No. 15-ranked team in the MaxPreps Top 25 St. Joseph (Santa Maria, Calif.) along with MaxPreps Top 100 hopefuls Edgewater (Orlando, Fla.), Gibbs (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.).

Along with highly-regarded teams, the individual talent is also overwhelming as 20 top 25 prospects across the Classes of 2025 through 2027 are competing in the event headlined by No. 2-ranked senior prospect Cameron Boozer of Columbus.
