Softball Recap: Edgar Wildcats vs. Marathon Red Raiders
Edgar extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 8-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Marathon Red Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-1 on Tuesday.
Isabella Kaiser was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one double. Ella Baumgartner also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
As for Marathon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 20th.
On Marathon's side, Allison Podjaski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. Podjaski has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mylee Haehlke was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Danica Staus was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Looking ahead, Edgar will take on Phillips at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Marathon, they will face off against Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Red Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
