Football Preview: Palo Duro Dons vs. Amarillo Sandies
Palo Duro hasn't had much luck against Amarillo recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Palo Duro Dons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Amarillo Sandies at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Palo Duro didn't have quite enough to beat Canyon and fell 26-23. The loss was the Dons' first of the season.
Even if they lost, Palo Duro's defense still kept up the pressure with 3.5 sacks. Keima'J Barnes was especially locked on to Canyon's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in Canyon's side was Jakaylin Terry, who picked up a sack and made 16 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Amarillo came up short against Midland on Friday and fell 49-42.
Amarillo's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jude Dunivin, who gained 108 total yards and three touchdowns, and Jett Lopez, who threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns. Dunivin's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. A healthy portion of that aerial production (136 yards to be exact) went to Bryson Brown.
Having lost for the first time this season, Palo Duro fell to 2-1. As for Amarillo, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.
