Softball Recap: L'Anse Creuse North Comes Up Short

L'Anse Creuse North dropped their record down to 6-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Algonac Muskrats by a score of 6-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 15-13 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2019.

Hailee Lane made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Grace Baalaer was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases.

As for Algonac, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

On Algonac's side, Jaycee Reams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Ava Murray was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Layna Kunnath also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. L'Anse Creuse North will face off against St. Clair at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Algonac, they will square off against North Branch at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
