Basketball Game Preview: Fossil Ridge SaberCats vs. Legend Titans

Two dominant forwards in Elli Johnson and Mason Borcherding are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Fossil Ridge SaberCats will square off against the Legend Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Fossil Ridge is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Denver North 68-22. Given the SaberCats' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th in Colorado, while the Vikings are ranked 164th in Colorado), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fossil Ridge can attribute much of their success to Johnson, who posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals, and Addilyn Sandstedt, who went 5-for-11 en route to 18 points. Johnson is becoming a predictor of Fossil Ridge's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is undefeated (and 6-9 when she doesn't). Amber Thorland also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Fossil Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 34 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Legend against Ponderosa on Friday as the team secured a 67-17 win. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Legend's win came from a few key players Fossil Ridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Borcherding, who earned 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Cook, who put up eight points and six boards.

Legend pushed their record up to 18-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points over those games. As for Fossil Ridge, their record is now 15-9.
