Softball Recap: Wauwatosa East Comes Up Short

Wauwatosa East had lost 14 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-13 to make it 15. They came up short against the Germantown Warhawks, falling 17-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Red Raiders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Germantown, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-3. Considering they have won eight matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Germantown's part, Alaina Williams and Ella Saltarikos made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Williams tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Saltarikos pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Williams has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Williams went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, while Saltarikos went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most RBI Williams has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Germantown got a massive performance out of Kayla Preiss, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave Preiss a new career-high. Addy Johnson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Coming up, Wauwatosa East will take on Menomonee Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Germantown, they will challenge West Allis Hale at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
