Basketball Recap: Shemar Smith Key Part of a Team Effort in Cougars Win

On Friday, the Fort Bend Kempner Cougars didn't have too much trouble with the Carver Collegiate Academy Rams as they won 48-34. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cougars' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 433rd in Texas, while the Rams are ranked 185th in Louisiana).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fort Bend Kempner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shemar Smith, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points. Those 11 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landen Parker, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks.

The victory made it two in a row for Fort Bend Kempner and bumps their season record up to 9-9. As for Carver Collegiate Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Fort Bend Kempner wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-43 win against Warren Easton on the 28th. As for Carver Collegiate Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Holy Cross will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Carver Collegiate Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
