Softball Recap: Elk Grove Wins Going Away Against Central Valley

Elk Grove saw some tournament action on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Central Valley Hawks as they made off with a 9-1 victory.

Kaylee Buck was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izianah Castillo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since April 2nd. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Anderson, who earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Elk Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Valley only posted a batting average of .056.

Elk Grove's win bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Central Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elk Grove will take on Monterey Trail at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Thundering Herd are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Central Valley, they will square off against Lathrop at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
