Basketball Recap: La Porte Comes Up Short

La Porte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 20th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 38-35 heartbreaker at the hands of the Portage Indians. If the Slicers were looking for revenge after losing 52-34 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Portage got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sarie Bond out in front who posted seven points along with seven steals and five assists. The dominant performance gave Bond a new career-high in steals. Kylie Byrd was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

La Porte's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Portage, they moved to 6-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

La Porte didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-29 defeat against South Bend Adams on the 21st. As for Portage, they will be taking part in a tournament against New Prairie at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Portage has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
