Basketball Recap: Wren Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Rowan County last Saturday, Wren came back down to earth. The Wren Hurricanes fell just short of the Cane Bay Cobras by a score of 58-56 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hurricanes have suffered since December 30, 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Wren lost, don't look at Abijah Franklin. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 43 points and nine boards. The matchup was Franklin's 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Beau Brannon, who posted eight points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wren smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Leading Cane Bay to victory were Jarvis Roper and Kevin Dukes. Roper put up 12 points and six steals, while Dukes had 12 points and five rebounds. With that strong performance, Roper is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Jayden Waring was another key player, putting up seven points.

Wren's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-3. As for Cane Bay, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.

Wren wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-47 victory against Fountain Inn on the 7th. As for Cane Bay, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-45 win against Stall on the 3rd.
