Baseball Recap: Gunderson Wins Going Away Against James Lick

Gunderson won the last time they faced James Lick and things went their way on Thursday too. The Grizzlies were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Comets. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

JD Murillo made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Gunderson's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaiah Chavez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Lake, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Gunderson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James Lick struck out ten times.

The win made it two in a row for Gunderson and bumps their season record up to 8-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for James Lick, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Coincidentally, Gunderson and James Lick will both be playing Independence the next time they take the field. The Grizzlies will host the 76ers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Comets will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
