Basketball Recap: Adein Lea?E's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Madison over Coronado

Madison was the 62-54 winner over Coronado when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Madison Warhawks fell 65-57 to the Coronado Islanders on Tuesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warhawks came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Islanders are ranked 581st).

Madison's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adein Lea?E, who went 6 for 8 en route to 15 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Lea?E a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Stevens, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coronado to victory, but perhaps none more so than Loxly Johnson, who posted 18 points along with six assists and six boards. The game was Johnson's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ah'Mahn Oliver, who scored 18 points.

Madison's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 17-8. As for Coronado, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madison will face off against Canyon Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Madison is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.4 points per game this season. As for Coronado, they will take on Mira Mesa at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Coronado knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Mira Mesa likes a good challenge.
