Basketball Recap: Evelyn Thome's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wausau East over Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln

Wausau East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against the Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Red Raiders, falling 60-34. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lumberjacks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-24 back in January.

Wausau East lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Evelyn Thome, who posted six points in addition to 22 boards and four blocks. Thome is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Hailey Bass, who earned eight points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Wausau East was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 1 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 6.6.

Wausau East's defeat dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be Eastside v. Westside when Wausau East and Wausau West meet at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Medford at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
