St. Mary's picks up 13th straight win at home

Recap: St. Mary's Pirates vs. Salida Spartans

The St. Mary's Pirates came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to Salida for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-33 victory at home. St. Mary's has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 24 points or more this season.

St. Mary's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maeve Salveson, who scored 22 points along with four steals. Salveson is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaela Pedro, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five blocks.

Despite the defeat, Salida saw an underclassman step up: Graysa Kindle dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Caroline Wooddell was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Salida smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary's only pulled down two offensive rebounds.

St. Mary's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.2 points per game. As for Salida, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

St. Mary's will head out on the road to take on the Thunder at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lamar comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Salida, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
