Whitley County is a perfect 10-0 against Williamsburg since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Colonels will welcome the Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. Whitley County's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Williamsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, Whitley County beat Wayne County 5-2. The Colonels haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Caleb Cureton looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, RJ Osborne was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Nunley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Williamsburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over Pineville on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellow Jackets considering their one-run performance the game before.
Ethan Reed made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Williamsburg is 3-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 0-23 otherwise. Reed was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Kleinert, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Williamsburg: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-23 otherwise. Kelly Wells was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Williamsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pineville only posted an OBP of .433.
Whitley County's win bumped their record up to 26-6. As for Williamsburg, their victory bumped their record up to 3-24.
Everything went Whitley County's way against Williamsburg in their previous meeting back in April, as Whitley County made off with a 16-0 win. Will the Colonels repeat their success, or do the Yellow Jackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
