Basketball Game Preview: Centennial Apaches vs. Hawthorne Cougars

The Centennial Apaches will venture away from home to face off against the Hawthorne Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hawthorne took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Centennial, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 16 losses in a row dating back to last season, Centennial turned things around against Compton Early College on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rising Phoenix, sneaking past 57-54. The Apaches' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Hawthorne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 100-12 loss at the hands of Inglewood. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 64-6.

Hawthorne's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Centennial, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-15.

Centennial skirted past Hawthorne 67-65 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centennial since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
