Baseball Recap: Piqua Gets the Win

Piqua owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Covington Buccs 1-0. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Buccs: they've now won six in a row.

Jerry Anthony was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one double.

In other pitching news, Piqua got a great performance from Aiden Applegate as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Applegate also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Indians are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-12 otherwise.

Anthony wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen Shawler, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Piqua's win bumped their record up to 12-13. As for Covington, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-11.

Looking ahead, Piqua will be playing at home against Miami East at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Covington, they are taking a road trip to take on Jackson Center at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
