Truckee hasn't had much luck against Sparks recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wolverines will look to defend their home field against the Railroaders at 2:00 p.m. Truckee has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Truckee is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Monday. They came up short against North Valleys, falling 15-5.
Jessie Borzello made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Sparks made easy work of Hug on Monday and carried off a 17-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Railroaders.
Bailey Hunden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Ellise Henderson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Liliana Pimentel Espana was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Sparks was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 7-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Sparks' victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Truckee, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Truckee hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Sparks struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Truckee came out on top in a nail-biter against Sparks in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Railroaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
