Baseball Game Preview: Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Silverdale Academy Seahawks

Notre Dame hasn't had much luck against Silverdale Academy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Fighting Irish will head out to challenge the Seahawks at 4:30 p.m.

Notre Dame is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Friday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Chattanooga Christian.

Cooper Jones was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jake Wagner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Meanwhile, Silverdale Academy was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They skirted past Rhea County 6-4.

Silverdale Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Notre Dame, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Notre Dame came up short against Silverdale Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Fighting Irish avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
