The St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish will take on the Bandys Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
St. Vincent-St. Mary's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Lutheran West 10-0. The Fighting Irish might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Ashton Tamzarian was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Pytash, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
St. Vincent-St. Mary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lutheran West only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bandys, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Bunker Hill with a sharp 10-0 win on Thursday.
Bunker Hill's batters probably weren't too happy with Chase Welch, who pitched a no hitter and racked up six Ks (he gave up three walks). Welch also allowed no hits, which is notable because Bandys is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 3-11 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Drake Tucker, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Bandys: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-11 otherwise. Easton Ledford was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for St. Vincent-St. Mary and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Bandys, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Vincent-St. Mary has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bandys struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
