Basketball Recap: Sangre de Cristo Takes a Loss

Sangre de Cristo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Sierra Grande Panthers, falling 44-15. The Thunderbirds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Jaydra Cordova was Sangre de Cristo's leading scorer, having posted six points.

Sierra Grande got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaylyn Quezada out in front who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten steals. That's the most steals Quezada has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Eneria Quintana, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 steals.

Sangre de Cristo's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Sierra Grande, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Sangre de Cristo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 66-16 win against Antonito on the 15th. As for Sierra Grande, they have also already played their next contest, a 37-29 loss against Center on the 15th.
