Preview: Santa Rosa Warriors vs. Rio Hondo Bobcats
Santa Rosa is 7-1 against Rio Hondo since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Santa Rosa Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Rio Hondo Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Santa Rosa knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Rio Hondo likes a good challenge.
Last Wednesday, Santa Rosa was able to grind out a solid victory over IDEA Weslaco Pike, taking the game 63-53.
Santa Rosa got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was David De La Cruz out in front who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Randy Flores, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Rio Hondo entered their tilt with Monte Alto with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Rio Hondo blew past Monte Alto, posting a 92-54 win on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Rio Hondo has posted since December 12, 2023.
Santa Rosa pushed their record up to 15-12 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 86.4 points per game. As for Rio Hondo, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-9 record this season.
Santa Rosa took their victory against Rio Hondo in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 72-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Santa Rosa since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
