Preview: Griffin Bears vs. Spalding Jaguars
The Griffin Bears will take on the Spalding Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Griffin is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
Griffin put the finishing touches on their 12th blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 61-24 win over Howard. Given Griffin's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Howard is ranked 415th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Griffin got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kasey Smikes out in front who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smikes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Naima Foster, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Spalding was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last Saturday as they fell 54-50 to Griffin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Spalding in their matchups with Griffin: they've now lost five in a row.
Griffin has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. As for Spalding, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-10.
Griffin didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Spalding when the teams last played last Saturday, but they still walked away with a 54-50 victory. Will Griffin repeat their success, or does Spalding have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
