Baseball Recap: Blake Sets Scoring Season-High Against Tampa Bay Tech

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Blake). They were the clear victor by an 18-8 margin over the Tampa Bay Tech Titans on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Yellow Jackets in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won four in a row.

Anthony Mathews made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brett Valerio and Victor Mendez did most of the damage at the plate: Valerio scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Mendez scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance gave Valerio a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Blake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Blake's record is now 3-10. As for Tampa Bay Tech, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blake will be taking part in a tournament against Riverview at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Riverview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Tampa Bay Tech, they will square off against Freedom at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Tampa Bay Tech has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
