The Kennett Blue Demons will head out to face off against the Unionville Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Kennett has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kennett is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They fell 11-8 to Avon Grove.
Ryan Hunter stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Kyle Doherty was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Unionville was able to grind out a solid win over Phoenixville on Saturday, taking the game 11-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.
Drew Puleo made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Unionville is 2-1 when Puleo allows one or fewer hits, but 5-8 otherwise. Puleo was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jake Wilson was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Chris Gebhart, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Unionville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Unionville's record now sits at 7-9. As for Kennett, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10-1.
Kennett suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Unionville when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Blue Demons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
