Football Recap: Righetti Takes a Loss

After flying high against Santa Maria last Friday, Righetti came back down to earth. The Warriors had to suffer through a 49-21 loss at the hands of the Nipomo Titans. The Warriors were up 14-0 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Righetti's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nicholas Matautia, who threw for 291 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 56 yards. Matautia has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Justin Oliveras, who picked up 105 receiving yards and one score.

Nipomo's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nick Evans, who rushed for 241 yards and one touchdown while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. Evans was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Jeremiah Wheeler was another key player, picking up 85 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Righetti's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Nipomo, the victory also got them back to even at 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Righetti will welcome Lompoc at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Nipomo, they will host Pioneer Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
