Softball Recap: Clinton Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hillsdale

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clinton). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hillsdale Hornets a 22-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Redwolves have beaten the Hornets the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hornets has come to flipping the script.

Taryn Hernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Calli Kruger, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Tzortzinis, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.

Clinton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.

Clinton's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Hillsdale, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clinton will venture away from home to challenge Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hillsdale, they will challenge Marshall at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
