Basketball Recap: Hylton Comes Up Short

Hylton came up into this matchup off a tough 42-point defeat last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Woodbridge Vikings by a score of 39-37 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, with their most recent loss being a 56-39 defeat back in January.

Despite the loss, Hylton still got an impressive performance from Diamond Johnson, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. Hylton is 4-1 when Johnson posts ten or more boards, but 4-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Aysia Gholston, who posted 12 points and six rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woodbridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ayanna Porter, who earned eight points and nine boards. What's more, Porter also posted a 44% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Maia Melendez was another key player, putting up 14 points and three steals.

Hylton has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season. Woodbridge's record now sits at 11-12.

Hylton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Woodbridge, they are taking a road trip to square off against Colonial Forge at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
