Baseball Recap: Orono Takes a Loss

New Prague hit Orono with a four-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell 7-4 to the Trojans. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 6-0.

Orono got a good showing from Ronan Barnett, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Barnett is becoming a predictor of the Spartans' success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 4-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Keegan Flansburg made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base. Carson Lucey was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Orono has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season. As for New Prague, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-10.

As of now, neither Orono nor the Trojans have any future games scheduled.
