Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Forney to victory, but perhaps none more so than Javian Osborne, who rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns. Osborne is becoming a predictor of the Jackrabbits' success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Forney also got help from Imari Jehiel, who showed off his sure hands for 174 receiving yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Forney was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 268 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 165 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests.
Another reason for the win was Forney's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Chris Ridore was the leader with two. Another thorn in Naaman Forest's side was Xzavier Young, who picked up a sack and made eight total tackles.
Meanwhile, Harker Heights didn't have too much trouble with Cedar Hill on Friday as they won 28-14. The Knights' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Harker Heights' win came from a few key players Forney will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Hudson Humble, who threw for 292 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 88.5% of his passes. Jaylen Mason helped Humble out on the ground, rushing for 120 yards and one score.
Harker Heights didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Arshawn Spann and Cooper Howard. Howard has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last 22 times he's played. Pressdon Johnson was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks, making seven total tackles, and defending one pass.
Forney's record is now 9-2. As for Harker Heights, their record now sits at an identical 9-2.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Forney has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 224.5 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Harker Heights has preferred to attack from the air: they average 287.9 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
