Basketball Recap: Northeast Academy's Losing Streak Snapped at Six Games

There's no place like home for Northeast Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 64-56 win over the Ridgecroft Rams on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Leading Northeast Academy to victory were Arland Davis and Hayes Hatcher. Davis dropped a double-double on 30 points and 12 rebounds, while Hatcher dropped a double-double on 24 points and 21 boards. The dominant performance gave Davis a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jessa Pope, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Northeast Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 32 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Ridgecroft saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hannah Slaughter went 12 for 25 on her way to 27 points and five assists. Slaughter continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Molly Brown was another key player, putting up nine points.

Northeast Academy now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Ridgecroft, their defeat ended a 16-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-4.

Northeast Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ridgecroft, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-29 win against Pungo Christian Academy on the 30th.
