Evan Brown was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Henry Ford Academy: the team is 6-3 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-7-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kobe White, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs. Henry Ford Academy is 5-2 when White posts two or more runs, but 4-8-1 otherwise.
Henry Ford Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Annapolis came up short against Inter-City Baptist on Tuesday and fell 9-6. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Annapolis saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Harris, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Jorge Nieto also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Henry Ford Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Annapolis, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Annapolis' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Henry Ford Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. It's a different story for Annapolis, though, as they've only averaged .213. Will they be able to contain Henry Ford Academy's hitters?
Henry Ford Academy might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Annapolis in their previous matchup back in June of 2019. Can the Navigators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
