Basketball Game Preview: Hurricane Tigers vs. Pine View Panthers

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Hurricane Tigers take on the Pine View Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday... Hurricane knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Pine View likes a good challenge.

Hurricane will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Snow Canyon, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Hurricane came out on top in a nail-biter against Snow Canyon on Wednesday, sneaking past 60-58.

Calan Hughes had a dynamite game for Hurricane, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. The game was Hughes' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brigham Kemp, who went 6 for 14 en route to 13 points.

Meanwhile, Pine View unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. They received a blow as they fell 59-41 to Crimson Cliffs. The Panthers were down 48-22 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Hurricane will have to keep a close watch on Jelani Odjegba and Stratton Williams, a pair of players who had a big impact on Pine View's prior game. Odjegba went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points, while Williams posted nine points.

Hurricane's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Pine View, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-5.

Hurricane came up short against Pine View when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 66-61. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Odjegba, who went 6 for 12 en route to 18 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.
