With a playoff win on the line, St. Helena rose to the challenge on Friday. They secured a 34-28 W over the Sonoma Valley Dragons. The win was just business as usual for the Saints, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.

St. Helena's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jhony Covarrubias led the charge by rushing for 117 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 212 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Those 117 rushing yards gave Covarrubias a new career-high. St. Helena's leading receiver Dean Sommer was Covarrubias' top target yet again, picking up 160 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

St. Helena didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Sonoma Valley to a completion percentage of just 46.2%. The team can thank Oliver Harvey for the heroic effort on defense: he. St. Helena has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.58 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.58 in their last three games.

When it comes to explaining why Sonoma Valley lost, don't look at Cayden Waldrop. Despite the final result, he rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Waldrop is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last eight games he's played. Dalan Lopata was another key player, throwing for 173 yards and one TD.

St. Helena's record now sits at 11-0. As for Sonoma Valley, with the defeat, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-2.

Looking ahead, St. Helena will take on Bishop O'Dowd at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sonoma Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
